The Henna Cat is Catharine Hinton, currently based in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England with two children, two cats and two areas of expertise: Mehndi and Yoga.
My adventures with Mehndi started about four years ago at a festival. I noticed henna artists were at the festival and as I was pregnant I wanted my belly hennaed. I paid £7.50 for a tiny simple design which the girl had to transfer onto me. I was so disappointed because the beautifully hennaed belly that I wanted was out of my price range and out of the ability of the artist. A couple of months later I was browsing the web for bindis and came across a store selling henna kits…I ordered one immediately and just didn’t look back.
With a natural talent for pattern, form and spatial awareness henna came easy to me and I now have a huge design portfolio of traditional mehndi and contemporary designs, all drawn freehand.
My policy is to use only genuine henna enhanced with pure essential oils and other natural ingredients to achieve a beautiful henna stain that fades away gradually over about three to five weeks.
